Broncioscope Results

We just got back from Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital where Ashley had a repeat broncioscope. The scope went well and Ashley was a real trooper through the entire short procedure. The bronc showed that Ashley still has a little bit of an infection left but her lungs, trachea and esphagus have improved. We will continue to give her Prevacid once a day and she will be on the nebulizer once a day for the next 5 days. The doc believes 100% that Ashley has Gastro-esphageal Reflux. Ashley will see the pulmonologist again on March 26.

Tomorrow, Ashley is back at school and will attend her Ballet class. Brad has Karate belt testing,I am off to work again and Joey's in North Carolina on business. Despite our abnormal lives with medical issues, we are back to some normalcy at least for a little while.

I will update again on Wednesday after Ashley sees Dr. Gonzales out at Shands. She will have an ultrasound on Wednesday as well as a pre-op appointment. Early Thursday morning Ashley will have an Endoscopy. If all goes well and there are no surprises we should be home for dinner on Thursday.

Ashley's Story

“Although Ashley’s liver is failing, she isn’t sick enough to be placed on the liver transplant list. We were told that Ashley would need a new liver by the time she reaches puberty." Ashley was born at the end of July in 1998, but her story doesn’t start there;her story begins when she was just a little peanut in my womb. At 24 weeks gestation we learned we were having a girl, but our little girl had something wrong with her. Imagine sitting in the examining room, and the excitement of learning you are having a girl, then at the same time you hear the silence in the room when something is just not right with the baby. We were told that Ashley possibly had an ovarian cyst. It was normal and not to worry. But something told us it was more than just an ovarian cyst. It's been a while. Did you know...

that Ashley was in the hospital after Thanksgiving and before Christmas? She had a bleed. She has varices. Just a little reminder that she is not healthy and has a life threatening liver disease. that we lost our beloved beautiful puppy, Sarge, on January 2. It was sudden, shocking, and sad. We think he had leukemia based on his symptoms. Not sure if we will ever get another dog. Sarge was one of a kind and a perfect fit for our laid back, drama free family. that Ashley made the Principal's Honor Roll her 1st Semester of high school while taking all honors courses. She is beautiful and smart. that Ashley is still dancing for her high school dance team minus a solo this year. She loves being part of the team but really misses competing in her favorite style of dance, lyrical/contemporary. that after a couple years of not having a dance studio to call home. All About Ashley - Dance, Liver, Life.

Ashley has been busy this year with dance. She is simply amazing and has grown so much as a dancer this year. I am very proud of her. Each year as Ashley continues to dance, it has become increasingly hard to pay for her love of dance. However, some how by the grace of God we are able to continue to support her talent and love. I mean really how can you possibly say no to this. and this... and of course this.... and this too.... Amazing isn't she? Remarkably or miraculously dance seems to be what is keeping Ashley so healthy. Her doctors are in firm belief that her dance is providing her with healing powers that they just don't have. Ashley's liver disease is stable after 13 years of fighting this beast called biliary atresia. Note: I said stable not cured. Her liver function appears to be normal...for now.
