I want to help others but I'm not sure how...

Lately, like many of us I have been thinking about the economy and although we are struggling financially, I'd still like to help others but I am not sure how. As I was laying in bed last night trying to fall asleep my mind was in full throttle and not allowing me to rest. My dream has always been to financially help other families who are dealing with biliary atresia and/or liver transplantation. Families that are dealing with special medical needs, in my opinion, are much more financially fragile than those families who are not. Imagine having a load of medical bills to pay along with your power, phone and mortgage bills. The stress for those of us who are dealing with never-ending medical bills can be unbearable. Believe me, I know.

After tossing and turning all night trying to think of a way to help others without jeopardizing my financial needs, I think I have come up with a way to make it work. My idea may not produce a large sum of money but even a couple hundred dollars will make a huge difference to a family struggling financially with medical bills. Of course, my idea will not be a success without your help.

Here's my idea...

Right now, I am selling Ashley's cookbooks for $12 plus $5 for shipping. What I'd like to do is sell the remaining cookbooks for $20 plus shipping, $10 will go to Ashley's transplant fund and the other $10 will go to another family in need. I will hold a contest on this blog for other biliary atresia families to be the recipient of the other $10. I have several cookbooks left so there is the potential to give another family a couple hundred dollars.

Think about how far your $20 will go to helping not just Ashley but another little girl or boy just like Ashley. Think about the relief for the parents of that child when they receive the news that they are the winners of the Love for Ashley Give to Others Contest. Think about how good you will feel knowing you have helped two children with your generosity.

Okay so I made you wait a couple years.  I promise I will try to get better at this.  Now to help  you catch up on what happened in 2018, 2019 and so far in 2020. Let's see...this might be a very short post at least for the years 2018 and 2019.   2018 In 2018, Brad graduated from the Univeristy of Alabama with a BS Degree in Economics and Philosphy in May. He is still dating his high school sweetheart, McKenzie, there is talk of marriage.  After graduation, Brad got a job with Reuters as part of their Graduate Leadership Program.  Then the division of Reuters that Brad worked for became Refinitiv. He lived in NYC for about six weeks for training and then lived in Chicago for about 9 months before they transferred him to Houston to work as a Customer Success Manager in Commodities and Energy. McKenzie also graduated with a BS in Pharmacy but continued with her graduate studies.  Ashley is a Junior in college and she is doing well academically and h...

It's been a while. Did you know...

that Ashley was in the hospital  after Thanksgiving and before Christmas?  She had a bleed. She has varices.  Just a little reminder that she is not healthy and has a life threatening liver disease. that we lost our beloved beautiful puppy, Sarge, on January 2.  It was sudden, shocking, and sad.  We think he had leukemia based on his symptoms.  Not sure if we will ever get another dog.  Sarge was one of a kind and a perfect fit for our laid back, drama free family. that Ashley made the Principal's Honor Roll her 1st Semester of high school while taking all honors courses.  She is beautiful and smart. that Ashley is still dancing for her high school dance team minus a solo this year. She loves being part of the team but really misses competing in her favorite style of dance, lyrical/contemporary. that after a couple years of not having a dance studio to call home.  We think we may have finally found just the place.  Maybe som...

Some Things

NO SURGERY.  Yes, you got it Brad does not need surgery on his elbow. The MRI results showed no tears, breaks, pulls....no injury at all.  We are so happy about this especially since this surgery would have cost us $6,000 out of pocket.  Brad needs rehab to build strength.  He is working on pitching exercises provided by a sports trainer.  Currently, Brad is not playing baseball although he been asked to play with several travel ball teams.  We are looking at the possibility of hiring a pitching coach.  I know Brad is happy that he now has a good chance to get on the varsity baseball team next spring since he has no injury. I have been sick off and on for the last few weeks which is the reason for the lack of updates.  We have plenty of reasons to update.  Like, Ashley quit dance.  Not really. But kind of.  Ashley finished her last year competing in dance a couple Sunday's ago.  As stated before, this year in dance ha...
