Sometimes it's good to be busy; it keeps your mind off of things that can drive you crazy. Brads weekend baseball schedule and the Red Sox/Rays game have helped keep my mind off what might be going on with Ashley.
Lately, Ashley has been looking a little pale, sleeping more than usual and her appetite isn't what it should be or what it has been in the past. She is still complaining of tummy pains, headaches and a sore throat. These complaints have been going on for a few weeks if not a months. She has more bruises on her body and in some strange places; places one would not normally see bruises.
What does this tell me? The easy answer is Ashley's platelet count is lower; probably under 100K. Her platelet count being low is pretty obvious with the bruising and the pale look. However, the tummy pain, the headaches and a sore throat remain a mystery not only to me but to her doctors too.
Her labs don't tell us anything except that her platelet count and white blood cell count is low. But we will repeat the blood work anyway. My guess is we need to make an appointment with an Ear Nose and Throat specialist.
Personally, I am getting tired of taking Ashley to her pediatrician once a week only to have him tell me the same thing, "there isn't anything wrong with Ashley, just watch her and if she starts running a fever bring her in." Don't get me wrong he is a great doctor, I trust him. The problem is, Ashley is a mystery; her liver disease, biliary atresia, is a mystery.
Like I said in a previous post, there isn't much I can do; Ashley's life is in the hands of her doctors. However, I can remain aggressive in her care. After all, her doctors have told me that they believe the reason Ashley has done so well for so long is because I have been aggressive. However, sometimes I am just tired; I want answers, I want the doctors to take over and be aggressive for me.
For now, I am thankful that Brad's weekend long baseball tournament has kept me focused more on him playing a good game of baseball and less on what's wrong with Ashley.
By the way, Brad's team is playing tomorrow in the semifinal round of the tournament and has a good chance to go onto the championship round. His AAU baseball team has never won a championship. This would certainly syke up the boys to play well in next weekends tournament in Palm Coast. GO OVIEDO BLACKHAWKS!
